Brussels – “According to the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO), before the elections, there are three major countries constantly attacked by Russia: France, Germany, and Poland,” said European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova on Tuesday.
“Larger-scale disinformation attacks have been observed on specific topics,” she stated during a press briefing. In France, they concern the Olympics and New Caledonia, in Germany, “immigration and security issues.”
The Czech commissioner, in charge of values and transparency, noted that Poland has recently been targeted by spreading a “narrative that Ukrainian refugees are becoming an unbearable burden on society.”
She cited a cyberattack against the Polish press agency PAP, which resulted in a fake dispatch announcing the mobilization of 200,000 Poles to go fight in Ukraine. (04.06.2024)
