Paris – The president of the main agricultural union organization in the EU, Christiane Lambert, said on Tuesday that she is “very worried” about the retaliatory measures being studied by China on European pork and cognac exports.
Beijing announced on Monday an anti-dumping investigation on pork products from the EU. This investigation adds to the one on brandy, including French cognac, which was opened in January.
Observers see these as retaliatory measures against Brussels’ plan to further tax imports of Chinese electric vehicles. Europeans accuse Beijing of subsidizing its manufacturers and distorting competition.
“Obviously, retaliation is on what the Chinese import. They import alcohol, cognac, they import pork and dairy products,” said Christiane Lambert, president of the Copa (Committee of Professional Agricultural Organizations of the European Union) and herself a pork producer in western France, on a radio station.
