Bratislava – The Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic (MV SR) actively monitors the situation in Syria and immediate measures have been taken in the area of background checks of individuals from this region. The ministry will address further action according to the latest developments in coordination with the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) or other EU member states.
TASR Agency was informed about this on Tuesday by MV SR spokesperson Matej Neumann. According to him, the Slovak Republic is ready to act if necessary.
“Currently, there are 460 Syrian nationals in Slovakia, of which 218 have been granted temporary residence, 237 permanent residence, and 5 Syrian citizens have been granted tolerated residence. In addition, in 2023, four applied for international protection, while in 2024, a total of seven Syrian nationals applied. Currently, we do not record any open cases of Syrian citizens in asylum proceedings,” Neumann said. (10 December)
