In Tirana, the plenary session of the Central European Initiative Parliamentary Assembly took place, under the patronage of the Albanian Parliament. The Albanian Speaker of Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, during her speech focused on the progress of Albania’s European integration process, noting that the country is awaiting the second governmental conference.
“For us, European integration is the only solution,” said Spiropali.
The European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato emphasized in his speech that in this initiative “existing member states and those that will be member states in the future come together, enabling even better cooperation as a very important part of European integration.
“For this region to become part of the EU, this is that integral part of our broader vision for a Europe to be stable, secure, and prosperous,” said Gonzato.
Gonzato underlined that the accession process is not just a technocratic process, but it means a change for the whole society, and for this the role of the Parliament is needed.
It is clear, emphasized Gonzato, that both sides understand, both inside and outside of the EU, that this moment for enlargement is important and should be further pursued, and for this we need further and strong efforts for reforms. (October 2)
