Disinformation in Europe

Disinformation is considered one of the main threats to democracy – not only in Europe, but worldwide. With only a few months to go before EU citizens vote in EU-wide elections, campaigns spreading false information about EU policies are on the rise. For example, Russian disinformation campaigns aimed at influencing the outcome of elections in Europe, as well as campaigns in Ukraine in the context of Russia’s war of aggression against the country, are being watched closely by politicians, experts, journalists and other professionals. What challenges do journalists and fact-checkers face in their indispensable role of countering such disinformation campaigns?
