Luxembourg – Sweden is pushing for tougher measures against Hungary in the protracted process of how the country meets various rule of law requirements.
When the EU ministers of the member states are to hear Hungary again about the situation at a meeting in Luxembourg on Tuesday, Sweden’s Jessica Rosencrantz for once does not intend to ask any questions.
“There is no point in asking any questions, as I get no reasonable answers,” says the Swedish EU minister.
After seven years of fruitless discussions, she instead wants to try to gather the other EU countries to give Hungary a “yellow card” going forward – a step towards freezing the country’s voting rights in EU contexts.
“This will be the ninth hearing we have had with Hungary and we see virtually no progress in the area of rule of law,” says Rosencrantz in Luxembourg.
