Barcelona – The European Commission (EC) has limited the area infected by African swine fever (ASF) in the province of Barcelona to 91 Catalan municipalities, leaving out the counties of Osona and Lluçanès, the main pig-producing areas in the province of Barcelona, as well as the area of Lleida.
In the implementing decision published this Thursday and consulted by Europa Press, the EC details that the affected municipalities are located in the counties of Barcelonès, Vallès Oriental, Vallès Occidental, Maresme, Baix Llobregat, Anoia, Alt Penedès and Bages.
This decision was taken after the confirmation of the first cases of the disease last Friday, which have risen to nine as of this Thursday, although there are still wild boar carcasses that must be analyzed.
This delimitation of the affected populations allows exporting companies outside the radius to maintain sales to countries such as China, which has accepted regionalization in exports.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is in negotiations for other countries to follow China’s example and not close exports from all of Spain. (December 4)
