Two years of strengthening Polish security have passed; Poland is a leader in the European Union and NATO in terms of spending on security and defense, but also in strategic thinking in these areas, emphasized Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz in connection with the second anniversary of the government’s activity.
On December 12, 2023, Donald Tusk, who had been chosen as prime minister the day before, presented to the deputies the program of action and the proposed composition of the government, which was then approved by the Sejm. A day later, the cabinet was sworn in by the then president Andrzej Duda.
In a recording posted on social media on Friday, the Minister of National Defense said that “two years of strengthening Polish security” have passed. “We are building a strong army, strong alliances, and a resilient society. These are our pillars,” he added.
“We are focusing on modern equipment, both from Polish manufacturers, on whom we strongly rely, and from our biggest allies. The individual equipment of the soldier and his safety are always our top priority,” said Kosiniak-Kamysz.
He noted that a modern Navy is also being built, and—as he added—the Swedish submarines recently chosen by Poland under the Orka program are the best sign of this.
In the context of security on the eastern border, the Minister of National Defense mentioned the NATO mission Eastern Sentry, launched after the incursion of Russian drones into Poland in September, whose priority is to ensure the protection of NATO’s eastern flank by deploying in the region systems for detecting and neutralizing means of air attack, as well as the involvement of allied fighter jets.
The defense minister also recalled the “Eastern Shield” program—a project coordinated by the Ministry of National Defense and the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, which assumes the construction of various types of military installations and fortifications along the borders with Russia and Belarus.
He also drew attention to the establishment of the Medical Forces, modern technologies, and the implementation of artificial intelligence in the military. “I could go on like this endlessly, because 200 modernization contracts concluded by the Armament Agency are the achievements of the last two years,” said the Minister of National Defense. “But the most important are the people, the most important are the soldiers, the most important is the philosophy of their actions and their responsibility,” he emphasized.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said that in the European Union and NATO Poland is a leader “not only in spending, but in strategic thinking.” “We base the architecture on our allies, the biggest ones such as the United States, but we are building a security architecture that will help in the coming years to develop our capabilities, based on the countries of the Baltic Sea basin,” he said.
He assured of his determination to raise the qualifications and skills of the armed forces. “We are investing in training, we are changing education, both at the vocational level and at the higher level. Higher military schools are our pride, and those young adepts of the military art who come to us are our future,” declared the Minister of National Defense.
He also stressed that he is counting on everyone’s participation in the recently inaugurated universal defense training program “wGotowości.” This program consists of several modules and is addressed to all interested Polish citizens. (12.12.2025)
