Bihać, (Fena) – The European Union has awarded 165,000 euros in non-refundable funds to civil society organizations in ten municipalities and cities in BiH, with the aim of strengthening social protection, economic empowerment of women and combating gender-based violence.
The contracts were signed in Bihać, and organizations from Bihać, Gacko, Tuzla, Vlasenica, Bijeljina, Derventa, Novi Grad, Olovo, Sapna and Gradiška will receive the funds. The projects are aimed at improving the position of women who face multiple forms of vulnerability.
Head of the EU Office in Banja Luka Biljana Barović emphasized that gender equality and the empowerment of women are key EU values, and recalled the recently launched program worth 7.5 million euros to strengthen institutional responses to violence against women.
The project “Providing assistance to vulnerable women and developing an integrated social protection program”, worth 550,000 euros, is being implemented by the association “Žene s Une” in partnership with ASB.
Head of the European Union Office in Banja Luka Biljana Barović emphasized that gender equality and the empowerment of women are key values of the European Union, but also an important segment of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path.
“Too many women in Bosnia and Herzegovina still face discrimination, poverty and violence, often without adequate institutional support. This must change. Through this project, we support local efforts to strengthen the social protection of women, which is in line with our broader support, including the recently launched program worth 7.5 million euros to improve institutional responses to gender-based violence,” said Barović, stressing that joint action is crucial for a safer and more economically stable environment for women.
Mayor of Bihać Elvedin Sedić highlighted the importance of social responsibility and support for women, stating that such projects send a clear message that women are not alone. (24.12.)
