Youth4Regions, an initiative by the European Commission, aims to empower the next generation of journalists to dive into EU affairs and explore how the European Union shapes its regions.

The session brought together participants from 31 countries, showcasing a diverse blend of voices. Alongside students and young journalists from EU member states and EU accession candidate countries, the group also included colleagues from Azerbaijan, Jordan, Lebanon, and Ukraine, reflecting the programme’s broad international reach.

Each year during the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels, the Youth4Regions programme visits the EU institutions and top-tier media houses. This year, participants were once again welcomed into the European Newsroom, a collaborative network of 23 news agencies from across Europe.

At Belga News Agency’s headquarters, the enr team lifted the curtain and offered behind-the-scenes information on how the European Newsroom operates. From editorial workflows to cross-border collaboration, participants got a first-hand glimpse of how European news is made. The session also covered the enr’s engagement with high-ranking EU officials, its role in delivering specialist training to media professionals – and, of course, a Q&A.
