Earlier, the cabinet already indicated that it finds “a missed opportunity” that there are no EU definitions for ‘vegan’ and ‘vegetarian’ products, as stated in a letter to Parliament.
The issue is briefly on the agenda of a meeting of agriculture ministers. German Agriculture Minister Alois Raine is against a ban due to the extra regulations it would create. “When people buy a veggie schnitzel, they know it is not made from meat.”
A ban requires approval from the European Commission and a majority of the member states.
