BRUSSELS – According to the American tech company, the Digital Markets Act (DMA) leads to a “worse experience for Apple users in the EU.” The law also brings security risks.
“The DMA should be withdrawn while a more suitable legislative instrument is developed,” Apple stated in a formal submission to the European Commission.
According to the law, app developers must be able to inform their customers about alternative app stores and offers through the Apple App Store. However, the company believes that security risks arise when users can download alternative app stores.
Apple also claims to be receiving increasing complaints from users about changes the company is making to comply with DMA requirements. Apple has not disclosed how many complaints there are.
Earlier this year, Brussels imposed a fine of 500 million euros on Apple for violating the DMA. According to the Commission, the company is pushing to offer apps only in its own app store. The tech company has appealed against this, claiming that the decision and the fine “go far beyond what the law requires.”
