Vienna (APA) – The current head of the International Law Office at the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gregor Schusterschitz, will be the new ambassador of Austria to the European Union in Brussels. This was decided on Wednesday in the Council of Ministers at the request of Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger of the liberal NEOS, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
Schusterschitz is no stranger in Brussels: He has previously served as Deputy Permanent Representative to the EU and Brexit Delegate, as well as Head of the Legal Department at the Permanent Representation in Brussels and Ambassador in Luxembourg. The 55-year-old is also an honorary professor at the University of Innsbruck. He regularly publishes on issues of international law and European law and teaches at the University of Innsbruck, the Diplomatic Academy in Vienna, and the Federal Academy of Administration in Austria. Schusterschitz succeeds Thomas Oberreiter, who requested his dismissal in July. (01.10.2025)
