BRUSSELS (ANP) – The upcoming meeting with the EU foreign ministers will discuss what should happen with the proposal. That meeting is on October 20.
In mid-September, the European Commission proposed, among other things, to suspend trade benefits for exports to the EU and to place the extremist ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich on the sanctions list. The measures would remain in effect until Israel allows more food and humanitarian aid into Gaza and ensures that a two-state solution remains possible.
The EU ministers had not yet made a decision on the proposals. They are divided on the issue.
“Such measures are obviously proposed in a certain context, and if that context changes, it could ultimately lead to a modification of the proposal. But we are not there yet,” a spokesperson for the European Commission said on Monday.
