Brussels (dpa) – Ukraine, which has been attacked by Russia, has received further financial aid from the EU amounting to 2.3 billion euros. This is intended to support the country’s public finances and public administration, as announced by the European Commission.
Ukraine has now been defending itself for almost four years against the Russian war of aggression.
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022, the EU and its member states have pledged aid in the three-digit billions – from military and financial support to assistance for refugees.
The so-called Ukraine Facility of the EU alone is endowed with 50 billion euros. Through the so-called Era Initiative, around 18.1 billion euros are being provided by the European Union. For this, interest income from the custody of frozen Russian state assets in the EU is being used. (22 December)
