Bratislava – Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico (Smer-SD) will not support any solution to support further military spending for Ukraine at the upcoming EU summit in Brussels. He said this on Thursday during Question Time in the National Council (NC) of the Slovak Republic, adding that the Slovak government is a solidarity player in humanitarian aid to Ukraine in many areas and is also a supporter of its entry into the European Union (EU), TASR reports.

“I cannot support and under no pressure will I support any solution to support Ukraine’s military spending in which the Slovak Republic should participate. At the same time, I respect the sovereign right of every EU member state to adopt another solution on a voluntary basis,” said Robert Fico.

He sent the same position in a letter to the President of the European Council António Costa. According to him, the conflict in Ukraine has no military solution, while the EU’s strategy towards this conflict is incorrect and ineffective. He assessed that the continuation of the war is a senseless killing without strengthening Ukraine’s position in the event of peace negotiations.

Therefore, he supports peace initiatives and efforts to end this war by US President Donald Trump.

He added that at the next European Council there will also be a discussion on the topic related to the ban on the production and sale of cars with combustion engines after 2035. According to him, it was necessary to put pressure on the European Commission (EC), resulting in a letter from several European countries requesting the EC not to proceed with a definitive ban and to allow the continued sale not only of electric cars, but also of vehicles with alternative drives, such as hybrids, for example.
