Chișinău – In her speech, Sandu emphasized that the regional and international context marked by the intensification of hybrid threats remains a complicated one, according to the Information and Media Communication Directorate of the Office of the President of the Republic of Moldova.
In these geopolitical conditions, for the Republic of Moldova there is only one realistic strategy for survival as a democratic, free and sovereign state: accession to the European Union, the president of the Republic of Moldova insisted.
At the same time, Maia Sandu underlined the need to intensify political dialogue, strategic communication and the active promotion of the interests and image of the Republic of Moldova in the member states of the European Union.
Particular emphasis was placed on relations with the neighbors of the Republic of Moldova. Sandu reiterated that Romania remains the country’s number one strategic partner and the main supporter of the European path, energy security, economic development and connectivity with the European Union. The head of the Moldovan state also reconfirmed firm and constant support for Ukraine, stressing that Ukraine’s resilience is crucial for the security of the Republic of Moldova.
Partnerships are to be strengthened also in the wider neighborhood, including with the countries of the Western Balkans, which share with the Republic of Moldova the aspiration to join the European Union. (22.12.2025)
