BRUSSELS – The Bulgarian caretaker Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov presented sets of the new Bulgarian euro coins to the Presidents of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, of the European Council Antonio Costa, and to the leaders of the EU member states.

Bulgaria is ready to be an active and responsible partner within the EU’s monetary union, Zhelyazkov stated in a conversation with Ursula von der Leyen.

The adoption of the euro is the result of consistent efforts and reforms and will contribute to economic stability, greater confidence and new opportunities for Bulgarian citizens and businesses, said Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.

He expressed gratitude for the consistent support of the European institutions in the process of Bulgaria’s accession to the euro area and acquainted the European leaders with the Bulgarian national symbols on the reverse of the coins, which reflect Bulgarian history, cultural identity and the country’s place in the European family.

The Bulgarian government has taken all necessary measures to ensure a smooth, transparent and successful transition to the euro, Prime Minister Zhelyazkov assured.

Before the President of the European Council, Zhelyazkov stated that with Bulgaria’s membership in the euro area from 1 January 2026, the European Union will be even stronger.
