Santa Marta – The Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon emphasized at the fourth EU and Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) summit, which took place in Santa Marta, Colombia, that the summit reflects the commitment of both sides to close cooperation in addressing common challenges such as international security and climate change.
“We are brought together by shared values such as a commitment to multilateralism and the green transition, as well as common challenges like ensuring the safety of our citizens and climate change. Therefore, cooperation between regions that are bound by strong economic, social, and cultural ties is the only natural choice,” Fajon said at the leaders’ meeting.
According to her, Slovenia pays special attention to the area of digitalization and artificial intelligence, including supercomputers, within the framework of EU cooperation with the mentioned region.
As she added, Slovenia traditionally collaborates very well with the region in the multilateral field, and its cooperation has been further strengthened by its membership in the United Nations Security Council, as last year it sat at the Security Council table alongside Ecuador and Guyana, and this year with Panama.
Minister Fajon also supported the idea at the summit that a woman should take on the role of UN Secretary-General in the future. (November 9)
