Stockholm – A special debate is to be held in the Swedish parliament about the euro. It is the Liberal Party, which is part of the government, that has requested this.
“Sweden is facing crucial choices, both economically and in terms of security policy. With new analyses and arguments on the table, it is high time that we have an honest and clear debate about the euro,” says Cecilia Rönn, economic policy spokesperson for the Liberal Party, in a press release.
It is still unclear when the debate will be held.
Within the government cooperation, the Liberal Party is in favor of the euro, while the Sweden Democrats are against it. The Moderate Party and the Christian Democrats want the issue to be investigated.
Sweden is outside the euro cooperation. In a referendum held on 14 September 2003, 55.9 percent of Swedes voted no and 42.0 yes to introducing the euro as the currency in Sweden.
