We now have a simple choice – either money today, or blood tomorrow, I am not talking about Ukraine, I am talking about Europe – said Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Thursday before the European Union summit in Brussels. All European leaders must rise to the occasion, he appealed.
The head of the Polish government made a very brief statement to the media before entering the EU summit.
– We now have a simple choice – either money today, or blood tomorrow. I am not talking about Ukraine, I am talking about Europe. It seems to me that all European leaders must finally rise to the occasion. That is all I can say for now, Tusk emphasized.
The Prime Minister will take part in the European Union summit, which is decisive in terms of further financing of support for Ukraine. EU diplomats, on the day before the meeting of the European Council, emphasized that the key thing would be to find the money, while it does not matter how.
In the opinion of the European Commission and the majority of capitals, including Warsaw and Berlin, the simplest solution is to use the frozen assets of the Russian central bank. They would be used to finance the so-called reparations loan for Ukraine, which would repay the funds after the end of the war and the payment of war reparations by Russia. Belgium, however, does not agree to this, as most of the 210 billion euros of assets immobilized throughout the European Union are deposited there.
Other options include granting loans to Ukraine guaranteed either by the European Union budget or by willing states. (18.12.2025)
