Brussels – The EU Parliament on Tuesday finally voted yes to the EU’s new driving license regulations, which among other things introduces the new B1 vehicle that will effectively replace the A-tractor.
The regulations include that young people from the age of 15 will be able to drive a car that can weigh a maximum of 2,500 kilograms with a maximum speed of 45 kilometers per hour. However, it will require passing both a practical and a theoretical driving test.
Other changes include new consolidated rules for digital driving licenses, validity periods, and health checks. Once the regulations are formally approved by the EU Council of Ministers, member states will have up to four years to implement the changes.
The issue of the A-tractor has been significant in Sweden, where many young people, especially in rural areas, drive such vehicles.
