Brussels – Thanks to the Czech munitions initiative, 100,000 rounds of ammunition will be delivered to Ukraine during July and August. This was announced today in Brussels by the Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský. According to him, 18 countries have so far joined the initiative, 15 of which have already fulfilled their promises and contributed. This means that there are enough funds to deliver 500,000 rounds of ammunition to Ukraine by the end of the year. Its total value is just under two billion euros (about 50.5 billion CZK), added government envoy for the reconstruction of Ukraine Tomáš Kopečný.

“During July and August, we will send a total of 100,000 more rounds of ammunition. We are now looking for money to purchase more ammunition so that the initiative can continue in 2025,” Lipavský told reporters. “We could deliver up to 800,000 rounds this year if we had the money,” he added. According to him, the Czechs are in daily contact with Ukrainian partners who highly appreciate the Czech initiative. They are working with Kyiv to determine exactly what their soldiers need.

The Czech munitions initiative is sourcing artillery ammunition for Ukraine from countries both inside and outside the European Union. Recently, the first shipment of about 50,000 rounds of ammunition arrived in Ukraine. The Czech Republic is working on the initiative mainly with the Netherlands and Denmark. The Czech Republic itself has contributed almost 866 million crowns to the deliveries, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said at the end of June.

Government envoy Tomáš Kopečný no longer expects the remaining three countries that initially supported the initiative to ultimately provide funding. “But we are pleased that 15 countries from Europe and North America have found our system trustworthy and are investing their money,” Kopečný said. He did not want to reveal which countries will ultimately not join the Czech munitions initiative, but according to CTK information, one of them is France. (July 22)
