Ljubljana – Slovenia is doing excellently in the field of climate policies and is fulfilling aspects of decarbonisation strategies that are at the heart of the EU’s agreement on clean industry, said European Commissioner for Climate Wopke Hoekstra after a meeting with Slovenian Minister for Environment, Climate and Energy Bojan Kumer. Kumer emphasized the importance of a balanced distribution of EU funds for decarbonisation.
As the Commissioner stated, Slovenia is doing excellently in the field of climate policies. He added that it meets both the climate aspect and the aspect of clean growth in decarbonisation strategies and increases independence.
“This should also be the way forward. This is also at the heart of the clean industry agreement presented by the EU two weeks ago to provide assistance to the economy in development, achieve climate goals and reduce dependence on third countries,” said the Commissioner, who sees this agreement as a winning combination for the future of the EU.
Minister Kumer, meanwhile, stressed that the key task of this commission should be to ensure conditions in which decarbonisation and related innovations incentivize the competitiveness of the European economy.
He also advocated for a fairer and more balanced distribution of funds from European funds supporting decarbonisation, and highlighted some specifics of our country that the new European climate legislation will have to take into account.
Kumer and Hoekstra also visited Steklarna Hrastnik, which successfully qualified among the recipients of funds from the Innovation Fund with its innovative project. In cooperation with the Chemical Institute, they developed a hybrid regenerative glass furnace, which significantly contributes to increasing energy efficiency and reducing emissions in the glass industry.
