Eleven student teams from all over Greece will launch their own mini-satellites the size of a soda can, which they built by participating in the nationwide CanSat competition in Greece 2025.

The CanSat competition is an initiative of the European Space Agency (ESA), where student teams from all over Europe develop a satellite that is launched to an altitude of about one kilometer, embedded in a rocket. The satellite is then released with a parachute, carrying out scientific and technological missions during its descent. In Greece, the competition is implemented by ESERO Greece (European Space Education Resource Office) based at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), in collaboration with the student aerospace team ASAT (Aristotle Space & Aeronautics Team) of AUTH.

The participating students enhance their technological and scientific knowledge in the STEM fields, having the opportunity to engage in a simulation of a real space mission. At the same time, they develop important 21st-century skills and collaborate with scientists and engineers in the field.

The public can watch the teams’ launches in person at the Megara Shooting Range. At the end of the competition, awards and medals will be given to the teams, and a winning team will be selected, which will have the unique opportunity to visit the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC), the main technology development and testing center of the European Space Agency for spacecraft and space technology, where a three-day event dedicated to the winning CanSat teams from all over Europe will take place.
