Brussels – Slovenia agrees with the inclusion of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on the list of terrorist organizations of the European Union, said the Slovenian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Tanja Fajon on the sidelines of the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels. She emphasized that she does not wish to close diplomatic channels with Tehran.

As Fajon said, she did not oppose at the meeting the inclusion of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on the list of terrorist organizations. She added that she does not expect this to have any consequences for diplomatic relations with Tehran, where Slovenia also has its embassy.

“Of course we do not want to close diplomatic channels,” she stressed, adding that the ministry is practically in contact with the embassy in Iran every day.

She also said that Slovenia has made it very clear to the Iranian authorities on a bilateral level what they are doing wrong and what it expects from them.

The foreign ministers of the EU member states reached an agreement at the meeting in Brussels on including the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on the list of terrorist organizations of the European Union, after the authorities in Tehran violently suppressed anti-government protests this month. At the same time, they adopted sanctions against those responsible for the suppression of the protests, in which thousands of people were killed. (29 January)
