Belgrade – The former President of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, announced that his cabinet and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brussels will probably deliver his candidacy for the special envoy for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina next week, reported the MIA correspondent from Belgrade.
In an interview for RTV Slovenia, Pahor stated that he has a large number of ideas on how to refresh or revitalize the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, which is currently at a standstill. He believes that Slovenia, as well as himself, have the status of “an honest broker.” Pahor said that he is preparing for the possible position “very carefully and responsibly” and added that the support he enjoys in Slovenia means a lot to him.
During the international conference on the Western Balkans last month, the former President of Slovenia once again expressed a desire to take on this position, and he was supported by Prime Minister Robert Golob.
Pahor recently announced that he is working on the draft for the continuation of the dialogue and coordination with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, EU member states and the Quint countries, including the USA, the UK, France, Italy, and Germany.
The special envoy for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is appointed by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, but the final decision is made by the leaders of the EU.
The special representative of the European Union (EU) for dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, Miroslav Lajčak, at the conclusion of his term at the end of August will be appointed as the EU Ambassador to Switzerland. (May 6)
