Sarajevo, (Fena) – The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina supported the initiative of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH and approved the conclusion of an international agreement between the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s association with the EU4Health Program.

This agreement makes Bosnia and Herzegovina part of the European Union’s most ambitious health program.

The Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dubravka Bošnjak, has been appointed as the signatory.

A Decision on the provisional application of the agreement was also adopted, which will be valid from the date of signing until its entry into force. This step allows Bosnia and Herzegovina to apply the agreement from January 1, 2024, thus opening the possibility of participation in the Program calls for 2024.

The EU4Health program, with a budget of 5.3 billion euros, is implemented from 2021 to 2027. This budget is the largest compared to all previous cycles of the European Union’s health program. The budget increase has been approved with the aim of strengthening the health systems of countries to respond to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, their preparedness for future crises, and addressing health challenges.

The EU4Health program provides significant financial support for the improvement of health systems in the member countries of the European Union and affiliated members. It contributes to achieving four general goals and ten specific ones, which represent key areas of intervention in areas of health improvement and promotion, protecting people from serious cross-border health threats, improving access to medicines, medical products, and products relevant for crisis situations, as well as strengthening health systems in the participating countries.

The Ministry of Civil Affairs will continue to coordinate activities related to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession and participation in the EU4Health Program, in cooperation with the relevant institutions in the country. (29.05.)
