The interest in Sweden is high for early voting in this year’s EU elections. In the first five days, at least 310,774 people have voted, an increase of at least 38 percent compared to the same period before the 2019 EU elections, according to the Election Authority.
Not all municipalities have reported figures yet, so the increase may be even larger.
“In Sweden, we have a long voting period where the voter can decide for themselves when and where it is convenient to vote, a flexibility that many appreciate,” says Anna Nyqvist, head of the Election Authority.
Early voting has been ongoing since May 22. The actual election day is June 9.
55 percent of Swedes voted in the last EU election – more than in 2014 and just above the EU average of just under 51 percent.
