Mengeš – Several Slovenian ministries organized the second national conference on artificial intelligence, focusing on new European legislation governing this field. Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar and several ministers advocated for the development of impartial and ethical artificial intelligence.

With the adoption of the Artificial Intelligence Act, the EU has become the world leader in regulating this technology, emphasized President Pirc Musar. According to her, the act will ensure that artificial intelligence systems used in the EU are safe, transparent, ethical, impartial, and most importantly, under human control.

The call for smart and responsible development of artificial intelligence was also made by Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon, Defense Minister Marjan Šarec, and Minister for Digital Transformation Emilija Stojmenova Duh.

“The fact is that artificial intelligence is an extremely useful tool and a welcome assistant that can significantly ease our work and life and also expand the boundaries of creativity,” believes Stojmenova Duh.

In a later discussion involving government, academia, and industry representatives, they also focused on implementing the national strategy for artificial intelligence and cybersecurity alongside the act. According to the participants, the European act will ensure safe and reliable artificial intelligence, but greater resilience of critical infrastructure will be required to enhance security.

The Artificial Intelligence Act, which regulates this field based on the risks presented by different models, was finally approved by EU member states in May. It will gradually come into effect. (June 4)
