Denmark opens for consequences if Israel does not stop the offensive

Denmark, like the other EU countries, has long warned Israel against a military offensive in Rafah. Nevertheless, Israel has launched an operation that this week has come under particularly critical light after an Israeli airstrike against two Hamas leaders sparked a fire in a refugee camp.

According to the Hamas-controlled authorities in Gaza, the fire cost at least 45 people their lives. Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (M) hopes that it is still possible to convince Israel with words that the offensive should be stopped. Otherwise, the Danish foreign minister is open to looking at possible consequences for Israel:
“It goes without saying that with the special relationship we have with Israel, which is a friend of Europe and a friend of Denmark, we will first try with good words. But it also goes without saying that in the long run, words alone will not suffice if they are not listened to,” says Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
