New town – The Slovenian Ministry of Education has, as part of the project Digitalization of Education at the level of primary and secondary schools and adult education, purchased 36 robotic arms worth more than a million euros for 30 secondary schools with programs in electrical engineering, mechatronics, and mechanical engineering. The purchase was co-financed from the EU recovery and resilience fund after the COVID-19 pandemic, among the main goals of which is also digitalization.
As part of the project, 1066 educational institutions in Slovenia will receive various types of equipment. This will include both traditional equipment, such as laptops and tablets, as well as advanced technology, such as robotic arms.
“The value of the project is almost 20 million euros. With these funds, we strive to improve educational processes, increase competitiveness, and prepare young people for future challenges,” said the Slovenian Minister of Education Darjo Felda.
The goal of the project is to provide information and communication equipment in educational institutions that will support reform processes. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted deficiencies in providing quality distance education, appropriate teacher competencies, and sufficient equipment and infrastructure.
Given the developmental opportunities of digital education and the fact that in Slovenia only 32 percent of students regularly use a computer in class, while in the EU it’s 52 percent, it is necessary to provide appropriate information and communication infrastructure, fast and reliable optical connections, and suitable digital applications and e-services for the development of digital competencies, the ministry wrote.
