Athens, June 13, 2024 (MIA) – The path to Europe must continue and Greece will be among the countries that stand with the countries of the Western Balkans, respecting democracy and the rule of law, and hoping Europe becomes the wider family of all states, stated Greek Foreign Minister Yorgos Gerapetritis in a statement to national television ERT following the participation in the Summit of Heads of States and Governments of the participants in the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in Skopje, reports MIA correspondent from Athens.
Gerapetritis said that in Skopje he conveyed “the message of peace, solidarity and friendship to all countries of South-East Europe,” reminded that Greece was one of the countries “which accelerated the formation of the Inter-Balkan Conference,” but also a strong supporter of the EU perspective of the Western Balkans through the Thessaloniki agenda since 2003.
– It is important to guarantee the European path of all the countries of the Balkans and the wider region in a period of very high challenges, with two wars in our wider neighborhood. Of course, and that is what I emphasized at the conference, progress must be developed based on specific preconditions, which are formal and concern respect for democracy, respect for the rule of law, faithful respect for all international agreements and consistent compliance with everything related to the European Union, international law, and of course respect for minority rights, said the Greek Foreign Minister in a statement for ERT.
