Current Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas is a good candidate from our region of Europe for one of the top positions in the EU, said Prime Minister Donald Tusk. He added that at the informal EU leaders’ summit on Monday, he expects an agreement on this matter, although not a final one.
“Kaja Kallas is a very good candidate, she is very familiar with the problems of our region, understands Ukrainian and Russian realities,” Tusk said, entering a meeting of the European People’s Party (EPP) leaders in Brussels. “She presents a one-to-one stance like the Polish one,” he emphasized.
According to unofficial information, Kallas may become the head of EU diplomacy.
Tusk also said that the current President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, “has a full understanding of Polish matters.” The German politician is seeking a second term in this position.
EPP leaders are deliberating ahead of Monday’s summit of heads of state and government of the “twenty-seven,” who will be agreeing on the top positions in the EU. (06.18.2024)
