Brussels – On our behalf, we congratulated Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and the ministers on the formation of the new coalition government and the European Union will cooperate with it in making progress in crucial reforms so that the country advances on its European path, said the European Commission spokeswoman for neighborhood policy, enlargement and international partnerships, Ana Pisonero.
– I think the message is very clear, North Macedonia must seize the existing momentum for enlargement in order to continue decisively on its EU path. I think you are all fully aware of what the European Council clearly said it expects from North Macedonia, and that certainly also applies to the constitutional amendments that North Macedonia committed to implement in order to continue on its EU path, Pisonero emphasized in response to a journalist’s question about the EC’s position on Mickoski’s statement that he “will not accept a change of the Constitution,” as well as “the government’s failure to use the constitutional name.”
Pisonero also added that the EU had already expressed regret over the failure to use the country’s constitutional name by “some Macedonian leaders.”
– That is something agreed upon with the Prespa Agreement and it is clear that all sides should respect the provisions of the Agreement and implement it in good faith. That is what we have to say, emphasized Pisonero. (June 25)
