When the EU official Johan Floderus and another Swede were released from Iran, the Swedish-Iranian researcher Ahmadreza Djalali was not included in the prisoner exchange for the life-sentenced Hamid Noury.
On Tuesday, his wife Vida Mehrannia had a meeting with Foreign Minister Tobias Billström (M). After the meeting, she is disappointed. She is critical that the government did not contact her in connection with the prisoner exchange.
“They release a mass murderer and exchange two people, but they didn’t even call us,” she says.
“I previously thought they were following this case closely. But now that two Swedes, as well as several other EU prisoners, have been released, I’m not sure about it anymore. I am devastated,” she says.
“I asked them what they have done. They said, as always, that they are following his case. They say the same thing at every meeting, but after eight years and three months, nothing has happened yet.”
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) has previously stated to TT that the government did “absolutely everything” to get Djalali out along with the other two Swedes, but Iran refused.
Ahmadreza Djalali was arrested in Iran in 2016 and sentenced to death. He became a Swedish citizen in 2018.
Noury was sentenced to life in Sweden for his involvement in mass executions in a prison in Tehran in 1988.
