Potočari, (Fena) – In the Memorial Center in Potočari in Srebrenica today, the 29th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the “UN Safe Zone” Srebrenica was commemorated, and the burial of 14 identified victims of the genocide from July 1995 was performed.
The families of the victims, numerous citizens, and domestic and international officials paid tribute to the innocent murdered victims and, in a dignified manner and with prayer, sent off the 14 victims whose remains were buried today.
The youngest victim whose remains were buried today is seventeen-year-old Beriz Mujić, born in 1978 in Zvornik. The oldest victim is Hamed Salić, born in 1927.
So far, 6,751 victims of genocide have been buried in the Memorial Center in Potočari, and after today’s collective funeral, this number is 6,765. The youngest victim buried in Potočari so far is a newborn, a girl named Fatima Muhić, and the oldest is Šaha Izmirlić, born in 1901.
About a thousand victims of the genocide in Srebrenica are still being searched for.
For the first time this year, July 11 is also being marked as the “International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide committed in Srebrenica in 1995” after the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Resolution on the Genocide in Srebrenica on June 23.
Based on this Resolution, the Permanent Mission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN will organize the first official high-level commemoration at the UN today, on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica.
The 29th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica was commemorated throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, the region, and the world with appropriate programs. In memory of the 1995 genocide in Srebrenica and in sympathy with the families of the victims, today is a Day of Mourning in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. (July 11)
