Madrid – Spain has secured 241 million euros in European aid to finance actions aimed at deploying an efficient and sustainable trans-European transport network through business projects of public and private entities.

Specifically, 22 initiatives validated by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility will receive the funds within the framework of the 2023 call for the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), dedicated to the development of transport network infrastructures.

Of the selected projects, 15 are being developed exclusively in Spain by public and private companies and seven are community projects with Spanish participation. Specifically, 13 of the 15 projects will have 208 million euros to carry out decarbonization and digitization actions of transportation in eight autonomous communities: Aragon, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Andalusia, La Rioja, Cantabria, Madrid, and Asturias.

Within Spain, and within the line dedicated to the core network, Adif has secured 78 million euros to co-finance the electrification of the Zaragoza-Teruel-Sagunto railway section, included in the Mediterranean Corridor.

At the same time, the port authorities of Barcelona, Valencia, and Gijón will receive 15, 24 and 3 million euros, respectively, totaling 42 million euros, to electrify docks and allow docked ships to connect to the power grid and turn off their auxiliary engines, advancing the decarbonization of ports and transport.

Within the framework of the global network, four business projects have obtained 57 million euros in aid. For example, the Port Authority of Almería has secured 6 million euros for the expansion of the Pechina dock, and Santander will have 4 million euros from the CEF funds for the Raíces dock.

In addition, 28 million euros have been granted to promote the development of the Sagunto multimodal logistics terminal, and 20 million euros have been allocated for the development of the Huesca multimodal railway terminal.
