Strasbourg/Ljubljana – Slovenian MEPs expect the fulfillment of given commitments with the re-election of Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission and anticipate the European Parliament’s vigilance over the work of the commission team led by von der Leyen. Meanwhile, the Slovenian political leadership looks forward to continued fruitful cooperation with her.
MEPs Romana Tomc and Branko Grims from the European People’s Party (EPP), in their response, emphasized the necessity of a different policy. MEP from the same European political group Matej Tonin believes that von der Leyen has shown that she understands the message of the voters.
Matjaž Nemec from the European Socialists (S&D) and Vladimir Prebilič from the Greens, who did not support von der Leyen, expect respect for the foundations of the EU, among other things.
Irena Joveva from the liberals hopes that her reservations about von der Leyen’s work will diminish during the mandate, while her party colleague Marjan Šarec expects measures for the benefit of the EU’s inhabitants.
Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar, Prime Minister Robert Golob, and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon congratulated von der Leyen on her re-election as Commission President. They emphasized that they look forward to continued fruitful cooperation for the benefit of Europe and its inhabitants. (July 18)
