ZAGREB – The current Vice-President of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography, Dubravka Šuica, is the Croatian government’s candidate for Commissioner in the new term, the government decided on Thursday.
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković recently stated that in the new composition of the European Commission, he will seek a Commissioner position that oversees one of the main directorates, a kind of ministry in the EU executive body.
“We will seek a portfolio with a main directorate,” said Plenković.
Dubravka Šuica, a Croatian politician from the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), has been the Vice-President of the European Commission for Democracy and Demography for the past five years. From 2001 to 2009, she was the Mayor of Dubrovnik. She was elected as a Member of the Croatian Parliament for three terms (2000 – 2011).
