Ljubljana – Many Slovenian pupils, students, and adults will go on exchange or education abroad in the new school and academic year within the Erasmus+ program, one of the most recognizable EU programs. According to the Center for Mobility and European Educational and Training Programs (Cmepius), almost 51,000 Slovenians have gone to European countries under Erasmus+ in the last ten years. The most popular are Spain, Portugal, and Germany.

Erasmus+ is an EU program that supports education, training, youth, and sport in Europe. In the period 2014-2024, almost 35,000 pupils, students, and learning adults, as well as almost 16,000 professional staff, have gone on exchanges and education, according to Cmepius data. The most exchanges during this period were in 2023, when 6245 pupils, students, and learning adults, as well as 3133 professional staff, participated.

Among the top ten most popular destinations, Spain is at the top, followed by Portugal, Germany, Austria, Italy, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, and the United Kingdom, which since 2021 does not have the status of a program country.
