The result of the project, which is now concluding after more than two years, is the removal of 17 dangerous pyrotechnic products from the EU market, the Ministry of the Interior announced today.

The aim of the project was to detect non-compliant or dangerous pyrotechnic products and remove them from the market of EU member states. Slovenia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Sweden monitored fireworks products, while Germany, Norway, and Portugal participated in the control of marine pyrotechnic signaling means and rescue means.

“The joint action on pyrotechnic products is currently removing 17 dangerous pyrotechnic products from the EU market and reveals a worrying picture regarding rescue products in maritime affairs. Measures are already underway,” the press release emphasized.

The project team discovered that 27 percent of the 64 examined fireworks products did not meet the relevant safety requirements. Market surveillance authorities also reviewed the technical documentation for 114 products, finding errors in 54 percent of all reviewed products. Concerning marine pyrotechnic signaling devices, they carried out checks on 17 marine signaling devices, revealing numerous inconsistencies and product defects. (September 20)
