The leader of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, expressed today her willingness to collaborate with the newly elected President of the European Council, António Costa, with whom she met, in response to the challenges of the European Union (EU).
“United we will respond to common challenges,” Metsola wrote in a message shared on the social network X, where she shared a photo of her meeting with the former Portuguese Prime Minister, who will take office on December 1st, and with whom she had “an excellent conversation” today.
“As he prepares for his new role as President of the European Council and as the European Parliament begins to examine the designated commissioners: these are crucial moments for Europe,” she added, illustrating a photo of both in her office.
With the presentation, on Tuesday, of the nominees for the College of Commissioners, the confirmation process is open, with the European Parliament having to carry out individual hearings of the chosen ones in parliamentary committees before voting on the new executive as a whole.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, assigned Maria Luís Albuquerque, the candidate for European Commissioner proposed by Portugal, the portfolio of Financial Services and Union of Savings and Investment.
