On October 15, Albania will be the first among the candidate countries to open accession negotiations according to the revised enlargement methodology of the European Union, which will be a key moment for the Western Balkan country.
The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, described the Second Intergovernmental Conference between Albania and the European Union as a historic moment for the Albanians.
The Albanian chief diplomat said that Albania has done its homework. “Albania goes well-organized, clear in what it seeks, convinced that it will represent its best values. Now the government has fulfilled most of its obligations. The whole effort is the effort of the entire Albanian society for us to continue the work we have achieved so far,” he said.
Hasani said that Albanians should consider this date as their historic moment and not of any group or individual involved in it.
Also, the Albanian Speaker of Parliament, Elisa Spiropali, stated that the conference is a well-deserved achievement of Albania and the Parliament will continue to strengthen leadership, democratic legitimacy, and the inclusive character of the accession process.
Tomorrow, October 15, the second Albania-EU intergovernmental conference is expected to be held in Luxembourg, where the first group of chapters covering fundamental reforms will be opened, paving the way for the start of negotiations for other groups. (October 14)
