More than 650 students will soon be accommodated in the newly renovated dormitories in Student City in Tirana. The heads of the European Union delegation in Albania, Ambassador Silvio Gonzato, along with representatives from the German Embassy, KfW, and Albanian authorities, attended the inauguration of the 5 dormitories with contemporary standards.
These modern energy-efficient buildings set a new standard by providing accommodation in line with EU standards. And this is just the beginning, as this project aims to reconstruct an additional 14 dormitories, benefiting over 2600 students in total.
This initiative will make the dormitories 40% more energy-efficient, reducing CO₂ emissions by over 3,000 tons each year.
“At the center of this project are the students, the future EU citizens in Albania. By investing in their education, environment, and well-being, we are investing in the future of Albania. Our support for Albania’s education system is comprehensive – it goes beyond the renovation of dormitories or schools – it involves fostering cooperation between the EU and Albanian educational institutions, it involves raising educational standards and providing young Albanians with sustainable educational choices and a promising professional future,” declared the EU Ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato.
The project “Energy Efficient Rehabilitation of Student Dormitories of Public Universities in Albania,” financed by Germany and the EU through KfW along with Albania, includes the energy-efficient renovation of 19 student dormitories in the City of Student I campus in Tirana. (November 4)
