Brussels – The European Commission has called on Slovenia and 12 other EU countries to immediately submit final updated national energy and climate plans (NECP). Since they did not do so by the end of June deadline, they were sent a reminder on Thursday, as they are violating European legislation, according to information from Brussels.
In Slovenia, the draft updated NECP, which should have been in Brussels by the end of June, is still in the adoption phase. The Ministry of Environment, Climate and Energy must complete a comprehensive environmental impact assessment, after which the government will decide on the draft. It is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
In addition to Slovenia, the European Commission’s reminder was received by Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, Malta, Austria, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia.
The European Commission warned that national plans are a key tool for preparing concrete ways to achieve the agreed EU goals in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and in renewable energy and energy efficiency. This is especially true when assessing ambitions to achieve the EU’s climate and energy goals by 2030. (14 November)
