Brussels – The fishing quotas for cod in the Kattegat are being reduced even further. This is one of the outcomes after the EU member states finally agreed on next year’s fishing in, among other places, the North Sea, the Atlantic, and the Mediterranean.
The cod in the Kattegat can only be caught as bycatch, and the maximum limit is now set at 72 tons for both 2025 and 2026 – a decrease of 17 percent compared to this year.
This year’s negotiations continued until the night of Wednesday and also resulted in, among other things, reduced trawling in Spanish, French, and Italian waters in the Mediterranean, as well as a significant reduction for horse mackerel off Portugal.
