Poland considers Albania a valuable ally, which is why Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski made his first visit to Tirana before taking over the rotating presidency of the European Union.
In an interview for Albanian Radio and Television, he also conveyed a clear message and expectations from Albania regarding integration.
“I am in Albania because we appreciate Albania’s moral clarity in relation to the Russian aggression in Ukraine. We appreciate the synchronization of Albania’s foreign policy with that of the European Union, as well as the great efforts Albania has made on the path to European integration. As the leader of the upcoming presidency of the European Union, I wanted to see with my own eyes the progress made by Albania, but also to tell you that we hope to open another chapter group with you during our presidency,” expressed Minister Sikorski.
Sikorski added that “there are opportunities for cooperation in the field of defense between the two countries.”
“You are a good ally of ours in NATO, you are now a leading country in the membership process. Several years ago you were at the end of the line, but now you are at the forefront of it,” he added.
Sikorski, a former journalist, previously held the position of Minister of Defense of Poland and is currently its chief diplomat and one of the strongest voices against Russian aggression in Ukraine.
“Ukraine and Russia are two neighboring countries of Poland, but we are the only country with such a specificity. We have restarted our military productions and all European countries must do the same, and as I understood, Albania is also doing the same, so once again we are allies,” said Sikorski./ (December 24)
