Bratislava – The declaration of the European Commission (EC) on the protection of critical energy infrastructure is serious, as the euro commission begins to pressure Ukraine regarding gas transit. Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) stated this on Tuesday at a meeting of the National Council (NR) SR Committee for Economic Affairs, reports TASR.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the European Commission, in its declaration, expects third countries to respect that this is a matter of EU security. “This is the language that (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky understands. He knows that if we lift all sanctions against Russia, he risks not receiving even a euro from the EU,” added the Prime Minister.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Blanár, welcomed on Monday the statement of the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, on the basis of which the EC supported Slovakia and Hungary regarding the protection of critical energy infrastructure, including pipelines passing through Ukraine to Slovakia. After the Monday meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, he also appreciated Kiev’s willingness to transport non-Russian natural gas to Europe.
