“The INVEST project serves as a stepping stone toward a digitally sovereign, resilient continent, fulfilling through the collective work of stakeholders, the promise of a connected, innovative and empowered Europe with the aim of seamlessly serving its citizens,” emphasized the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, during the inaugural meeting of the INVEST – (INTeroperability Vision in Europe – Strategy Timeplan) project at the Ministry of Digital Governance.
This is a flagship project for Europe, aiming to define strategic priorities and develop a detailed action plan for the implementation of the new European Regulation on establishing measures for a high level of interoperability in the public sector throughout the European Union (Interoperable Europe Act, EU/903/2024). The INVEST project, with a total budget of 1 million euros, is funded by the Digital Europe programme, lasts 12 months, and will be completed in December 2025.
The Ministry of Digital Governance has undertaken the coordination of the INVEST project, which emphasizes enhancing interoperability, promoting innovation, and digital transformation across European public administrations with the involvement of stakeholders.
Through its structured approach to strategic planning, implementation, and stakeholder participation, INVEST supports the development of a Digital Single Market.
Partners from 7 member states of the project (Greece, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Portugal, Croatia and Luxembourg), representatives of the Directorate-General for Informatics of the European Commission (DG DIGIT), and 62 representatives from 20 countries (Austria, Bulgaria, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Estonia, Spain, Cyprus, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and Finland) participated in the INVEST kickoff meeting. During the meeting, they discussed the strategic priorities of the Interoperable Europe Regulation (EU/903/2024) and the mechanism for systematic cooperation among Member States for the joint implementation of interoperable solutions, through multinational projects and other initiatives. They also highlighted the importance of coordinated action and the active participation of all stakeholders.
On behalf of Greece, the General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance and the National Infrastructures for Technology and Research (EDYTE S.A. – GRNET) of the Ministry of Digital Governance participate in the implementation of the project.
In recent years, the Ministry of Digital Governance, utilizing interoperability, has significantly upgraded the digital services provided by the public sector through gov.gr. Additionally, it has taken important initiatives at the European level on interoperability issues, such as submitting a proposal for the creation of a European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC) based in Greece, which concerns interoperability and connected and innovative public administrations (IMPACTS). Its purpose is to promote the development and implementation of common European interoperability solutions in accordance with the Interoperable Europe Regulation across all member states. (4/2/2025)
